Lotus Life Leadership

The Lotus:

The lotus is a powerful symbol across cultures, representing purity, resilience, and spiritual awakening. Growing in muddy waters yet blooming in pristine beauty, it signifies the ability to rise above adversity and achieve enlightenment. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the lotus is associated with divine consciousness, symbolizing spiritual elevation.

Beyond spirituality, the lotus embodies personal growth, self-realization, and inner peace. It teaches that one can thrive despite challenges, just as the flower remains untouched by the impurities of its surroundings. A universal metaphor for resilience, the lotus encourages perseverance, reminding us to remain steadfast on our journey toward wisdom, enlightenment, and self-discovery.

Life Leadership

Life leadership is the art of consciously guiding one’s life with purpose, wisdom, and resilience. It goes beyond conventional leadership, focusing on self-mastery, emotional intelligence, and holistic well-being. True life leaders take responsibility for their actions, align their values with their goals, and inspire others through their authenticity.

It encompasses spiritual growth, mental clarity, emotional balance, and ethical decision-making. By managing relationships, energy, and time effectively, life leadership fosters inner peace and fulfilment. It is about leading oneself first, making mindful choices, and creating a meaningful impact in personal and professional spheres, ultimately leaving a lasting legacy.

Metaphor of flying a kite

Spiritually, flying a kite (Photo in articles page) symbolizes freedom, aspiration, and the journey of the soul. It represents the human spirit’s desire to rise above worldly limitations and connect with higher realms. Just as a kite soars high while still tethered to the earth, it signifies the balance between material existence and spiritual elevation.

The wind guiding the kite reflects divine grace, reminding us to surrender and trust the flow of life. The string symbolizes discipline and inner strength, essential for maintaining stability amid life’s challenges. Flying a kite also signifies letting go of burdens, embracing joy, and striving toward enlightenment.

Lotus Life Leadership

Lotus Life Leadership embodies rising above challenges with wisdom, resilience, and spiritual growth, much like the lotus that blooms untouched in muddy waters. It symbolizes self-mastery, purity of thought, and the ability to lead life with clarity and purpose.

Like a kite soaring high yet grounded by a string, it balances ambition with inner stability. True leadership in life is about aligning actions with values, embracing challenges as opportunities, and inspiring others through authenticity. It is a journey of continuous growth, guided by divine wisdom, leading to inner peace, fulfilment, and a meaningful, enlightened existence.

Why I am launching this website:

I'm launching this website to impart my life experiences, stories, narratives, perspectives broadly on “Life and Living. They might be Inspirational, they might be about Vedic sciences, might be about Leadership, Management and new perspectives. I owe immense gratitude to my exceptional mentors: Swami Gautamananda, Vice President of Sri Ramakrishna Mutt; the late Mrs. Radha Burnier, President of The Theosophical Society; Mr Anoop Jaiswal, former DGP, Tamil Nadu and Mahatria, Founder of Infinitheism. Their guidance has been invaluable. The wisdom I offer stems from my own journey, teachings received, and three decades of avid reading of books on Psychology, Leadership, Scriptures, Health and Wellness and largely on Spirituality.

I would be thrilled and immensely pleased if the experiences I've conveyed through my articles and essays prove beneficial to you. Many of them have been published; some in Infinithoughts, an international magazine, some in AUETAA Newsletter, some in The Theosophist, and some in Wake-Up India.

Excited to be alive!

Life Leadership

Your Spirituality

Every appliance comes with a user manual—a guide detailing the do’s and don’ts, ensuring optimal performance. Yet, when we enter this world, we arrive without a manual of our own. Instead, we navigate life by absorbing lessons from our parents, friends, and society while shaping our path based on our inherent tendencies. But is this enough?

Regardless of whether we are born into wealth or poverty, there is one fundamental truth: our journey truly begins when we connect with our Spiritual Self. This is where life originates, at the very Source—the Source of all Sources. Some call it God; others may refer to it as Consciousness, Universal Energy, or the Infinite. But the name is secondary—the realization of this connection is what truly matters.

One of the ways to access this deeper understanding is by exploring scriptures and spiritual wisdom. Knowledge of the Self is not just a philosophical pursuit—it is the very foundation of a fulfilled life. When we embark on this path, Yoga and Contemplation become powerful tools. Yoga is not merely physical postures but a union—of the body, mind, and spirit. Contemplation on higher truths naturally leads to Meditation, where the sense of separation dissolves, and we experience Oneness with the Whole. This is the ultimate state of being—where individual identity merges into the vast, infinite consciousness.

Above all, understanding that "Your Spirituality Comes First" is the key. In a world that constantly pulls us outward, anchoring ourselves in this inner truth gives life true meaning and purpose.

Each one of us is unique, possessing qualities, skills, and tendencies that differentiate us from others. This uniqueness is not random—it is our Svadharma, our intrinsic duty and purpose. Recognizing this inner calling and aligning our efforts in that direction leads to excellence. When we embrace our unique gifts and refine them, we do not merely succeed—we contribute meaningfully to the world.

Thus, life’s real user manual is found within—by turning inward, seeking wisdom, and understanding that our spiritual essence is the foundation upon which everything else rests.

Your Body

Your body is the sacred temple of the Spirit—the divine essence that animates all life. This Spirit, also known as Atma, Consciousness, or God, is the very spark of energy that dwells within every heart, equally present in all beings. It is the Enlivening Force that sustains us; when it departs, life as we know it ceases.

To honor this sacred presence, the body must be nurtured with care. Nourishment should come from pure, sattvic food—light, easily digestible, and consumed in moderation. Just as food shapes the body, the subtle essence of what we consume shapes the mind, and the even subtler essence refines the intellect. As the saying goes, “We are what we eat.” Beware—what delights the tongue often burdens the gut.

Breath, or Prana, is equally vital, purifying the blood and sustaining life’s rhythm. And yet, beyond food and breath, there is another essential nourishment—stillness. Learning to sit in silence is an art, a gateway to inner awakening.

Nature, in its infinite wisdom, reveals the profound interconnectedness of all existence. Spend time amidst its beauty, observe its harmony, and recognize the divine flow within and around you. As Jesus said, “Be still and know that You are God.” In stillness, the eternal truth reveals itself.

Your Mind

The Mind: The Bridge Between the Inner and Outer Worlds

Your journey through life is shaped by your thoughts. The mind serves as the interface between the divine core of your Being and the external world, constantly processing and interpreting experiences. It is both a receiver and a projector—taking in sensory inputs and influencing your reality based on perceptions.

When you turn inward and explore your inner landscape, it is like peeling away layers of illusion, revealing a purer, kinder, and more awakened self. This practice of self-reflection and contemplation gradually refines the mind, aligning it with clarity, wisdom, and peace. However, while inner contemplation is essential, life also demands engagement with the outer world—education, career, family, relationships, and responsibilities. Balancing both is the key to a harmonious life.

The mind holds immense power—it can transform a heaven into hell or a hell into heaven. It processes the world through the five senses—ears, eyes, tongue, skin, and nose—perceiving reality based on external stimuli. It then acts through the five organs of action—hands, legs, mouth (speech), anus, and genitals. But for the mind to remain calm and centred, the senses must be disciplined.

On average, an adult thinks 60,000 thoughts a day, with most of them being repetitive. The mind constantly swings between past regrets and future anxieties, rarely dwelling in the present. To break this cycle, one must cultivate "Heightened Awareness”—a state of being fully present in this moment, neither trapped in the past nor lost in the future.

Just as traffic must be regulated to avoid chaos, the flow of thoughts must be policed to maintain mental clarity. Ultimately, the quality of your thoughts determines the quality of your life. Master your mind, and you master your destiny.

Your Intellect

The intellect is the discerning faculty within us that governs the mind and its thoughts. While the mind is constantly influenced by emotions, desires, and sensory inputs, the intellect acts as a guide, making decisions based on logic, wisdom, and higher understanding.

Think of the mind as a wild horse—it moves in various directions based on impulses and external stimuli. The intellect, on the other hand, is the skilled rider that holds the reins, directing the horse toward a meaningful destination. Without the intellect's control, the mind gets caught in a loop of endless desires, distractions, and impulsive actions. But when the intellect is sharpened through self-inquiry, reflection, and wisdom, it governs the mind effectively, allowing for rational choices, emotional stability, and a purposeful life.

A well-trained intellect filters thoughts, choosing what is beneficial and discarding what is unnecessary. This ensures that the quality of thoughts remains high, ultimately shaping the quality of life. The stronger the intellect, the more disciplined and focused the mind becomes.

The BMI Chart by Swami Chinmayananda

Swami Chinmayananda, a revered spiritual teacher, introduced the BMI (Body-Mind-Intellect) Chart, a profound framework that explains how human experience is structured. It provides a clear understanding of how we interact with the world and our deeper reality.

Understanding the BMI Chart:

B – Body (Physical Layer)

  • The body interacts with the external world through the five sense organs (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin) and the five organs of action (hands, legs, mouth, anus, genitals).
  • It is the grossest layer of our existence and is driven by sensory perceptions.

M – Mind (Emotional Layer)

  • The mind is the seat of emotions, feelings, likes, and dislikes.
  • It reacts impulsively to sensory inputs and is highly influenced by desires and attachments.
  • The mind is in a constant state of movement, swinging between happiness and sorrow, hope and fear.

I – Intellect (Rational & Discerning Layer)

  • The intellect is the higher faculty that analyzes, discriminates, and decides.
  • It helps us distinguish between right and wrong, guiding our actions with wisdom rather than impulsiveness.
  • A well-developed intellect governs the mind, ensuring clarity and self-mastery.

How These Layers Function Together:

  • The Body (B) interacts with the external world through Perception (P) and Action (A).
  • The Mind (M) reacts emotionally, forming attachments, desires, and aversions.
  • The Intellect (I) is the decision-maker that determines whether we act wisely or impulsively.

Beyond the BMI layers, Swami Chinmayananda speaks about "Self" or the Real "I", which is beyond the body, mind, and intellect. This is Pure Consciousness (C)—the eternal, unchanging presence that is our true nature.

Living life from a higher pedestal

Life resembles a maze, requiring navigation through various situations to reach desired destinations. Amidst twists, turns, and occasional dead ends, one retraces their steps, finding alternative paths and realizing that solutions always exist. Faith serves as the vital link expediting this journey from the present to the desired future. It embodies complete trust in someone or something and stands as a cornerstone of spirituality.

Spirituality gauges our openness to Grace— a force greater than ourselves—guiding our lives. At its core, spirituality prioritizes love for oneself, others, all living beings, the environment, and our planet.

The prayer of the Theosophical Society by Annie Besant is

  • O Hidden Life! Vibrant in every atom
  • O Hidden Light! Shining in every creature
  • O Hidden Love! Embracing all in oneness

May each who feels himself as one with Thee

Know he is also one with every other.

This prayer encapsulates the interconnectedness. Just as the banks of a river, seemingly separate on the surface, are fundamentally linked beneath, recognizing oneself as both microcosm and part of the macrocosm unveils life's interconnected nature, elevating one's perspective.

Embodying spiritual qualities like acceptance, authenticity, commitment, compassion, discernment, empathy, forgiveness, generosity, gratitude, harmony, humility, integrity, love, mindfulness, perseverance, patience, humor, strength, silence, simplicity, fearlessness, understanding, and unity in diversity, alongside practicing nonviolence in thought, word, and deed, grants clarity and understanding, enriching life.

Wise individuals, sages, and seers transcend the maze, perceiving it from a higher vantage point. Navigating life's labyrinth becomes feasible when viewed from an elevated perspective. Let us aspire to wisdom by embodying these higher qualities.

LIVING A HIGHER LIFE

Recently I celebrated my 60th birthday. I received a number of gifts and since my relatives and friends knew that I love reading books, most of the gifts that were given were in the form of some lovely books.

A couple of days later, after the celebrations I was climbing up the staircase in our apartment building block with a book in hand, planning to sit in the terrace and read. One of my friends living in the floor above, saw me going up, asked me where i was going. I replied,” I am going up for higher studies !!”

We had a good laugh but that chance answer I gave then that day made me ponder about what is actually living a Higher Life, ( I knew about higher studies and high living though !!) A high life indicates living an outside life which is exciting, luxurious way of living that involves great deal of entertainment, late night parties, entertainment and eating good food. A Higher Life means a Spiritual life and a High life is a materialistic life, I thought to myself. However we find that people are thronging and gravitate to be with people who are living a Spiritual or a Higher Life. Living a Higher Life is a way of life and is not about the way you dress or the way you walk or what you eat or the high places that you visit or your flashy business card or meeting the powerful contacts or the holiday destinations you go to.

A higher life indicates life living with discrimination and elevated, refined and sublime qualities like Love, Faith, Humility, Gratitude, Good conduct, Purity, Awareness, Integrity and Simplicity. All the lofty characteristics make your character. It’s not going to the caves or living a life like a recluse. It is working with enormous zest and zeal, earning money ethically with a karma yoga bent of mind, and not be attached to it.

From the Big Bang through the mineral age through the vegetable age through the animal age to the human age, the age of this Universe is about 13.8 billion years. The humans evolved after the animal age with the power of discrimination that was the differentiating factor between the two. By discrimination, the human beings were endowed with the understanding the difference between Real and Unreal, Right and Wrong, Important and the Unimportant, the Useful and Useless, True and False, Selfish and Selfless. Knowing this is the first step to a higher life. Of all the characteristics Love is the most important since Love encompasses all.

Everything is connected to everything in this world. There is interconnectedness, the life in you and me are all from the same Source. This is called Spirituality. If one understands the interconnectedness of all the lives in this world one would treat everyone and everything with Love and this includes the people, the trees, the animals, the ecology and the earth, the violence would drastically come down. When you love everyone without bias you are already a pure person. Purity is the basis for Spirituality. Purity in thoughts, purity in feelings. When you are a pure person the thoughts you have would be positive and will be good for humanity. This is the second step to leading a higher life.

Mahatria says that in the progress of human growth and development - is knowledge. We go to schools, college to acquire knowledge. On the top of knowledge one needs skills and attitude. Your college education alone is not sufficient. On the top of this comes the next rung in the pyramid i.e the positive attributes in life like if you think you can, you can,. All these things work when ordinary challenges come. Ordinary wind it can withstand, cyclone.. it cannot. Then you begin to feel that you need to understand the philosophical understanding of life. It is not possible to peep into philosophy without peeping into Religion. It is not possible to peep into Religion without trying to understand God. Because the central pivot in Religion is God. What is the factor called God? Is there anything beyond God? Faith is even above God, for only to those who have Faith there is God. So God is delivered through your Faith. The top of the pyramid is actually Faith. Faith is the connecting power into the Spiritual Realm. Faith is the basic ingredient to begin a relationship with God. Faith is the light that leads you through the darkness. With Faith everything is possible. Having Faith is the next step to a higher life.

Nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart. Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for happiness. Gratitude is the healthiest of all the human emotions. Mahatria says that Gratitude is the mother of all emotions. Even without our asking there are so many things that are provided to us by Nature and through the relationships that we share with the world outside. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for. Further, one of the fundamental qualities invariably found in a grateful person is humility. So, if one is grateful he is humble. Being Grateful is the next step to a higher life.

Good Conduct is another important ingredient for a higher life. From where you are to where you want to be you need the support of people. Good conduct is most important in any relationship. Human beings are creatures of emotion and not logic. So, sometimes when you do not get what you wanted you should not get angry and conduct badly. You should always be calm and unruffled even when you are affected by sorrow, troubles, sickness, losses. All troubles are transitory and we should let that time pass, for in life - this too will pass. Bad weather will not last forever. Hold back from pride for pride comes from ignorance. Tolerance for all, cheerfulness at all times and One-pointedness to doing helpful, unselfish work, confidence and Trust in yourself would enable you to lead your life with Good conduct.

The real miracle in Life would be to awake during the present moment. Anyone who maintains awareness in the present moment becomes beautiful and radiates happiness, peace and inner joy. Being in the present moment means that we are aware and mindful of what is happening at this very moment. We are not distracted by the reflections of the past or anxieties of the future but centered in the present moment. It is quite simple to understand life if life is lived “in this moment.” The past is history, the future is mystery and the only thing you can control is the present moment and that is why it is called a “Present !” Living life with heightened awareness is another very important aspect to a higher living.

Integrity is the quality of doing the right things even when no one is watching you. Adhering to strong morals and ethics. It means that you are true to yourself and would do nothing to dishonor you. Honesty and Trust are integral part of integrity. Integrity means having a moral compass that doesn’t flicker at all weathers and it denotes a wholeness of character just as an integer without any fractions. Living life with integrity is another important aspect in living a higher life.

Life is very simple but we complicate it. Knowledge is a process of piling up facts, wisdom lies in the simplification. Simplicity boils down to two steps – Identify the essential and eliminate the rest. Remove the unwanted clutter from your life and keep it simple. In simplicity you will find the highest clarity and peace. Simplicity is another important aspect in living a higher life.

And finally one needs to listen to the nursery rhyme more times when you get busier

Row, row, row your boat

Gently down the stream

Merrily merrily, merrily, merrily

Life is but a dream.

Life is sometimes difficult but we should never give up, never quit until we reach where we wanted to reach – a higher life.
