FREEZE
A documentary filmed in Afghanistan showed a group of teenagers playing football on a barren ground. There were around fourteen of them. The match gathered intensity, energy, and excitement. Every player was completely absorbed in the game.
Suddenly, one boy raised both his hands and shouted:
“Freeze!”
Every single player stopped instantly. No movement. No panic. No confusion.
The boy slowly pointed toward a spot on the field where he suspected a landmine had been buried.
The players quietly gathered stones. Standing at a safe distance, they began throwing them one by one toward the suspected area.
Then it happened.
One stone hit the target.
A massive explosion shattered the silence.
And within moments, the boys jumped in relief and joy… and resumed their football game with the same passion and enthusiasm.
That scene stayed in my mind.
Last week, I underwent an MRI scan. For nearly thirty minutes, I was instructed not to move.
“Freeze.”
Lie still. Stay calm. Breathe.
And strangely, that word began to mean something much deeper to me.
In life too, there are moments when we must freeze.
When someone hurts us with harsh words.
When we are misunderstood.
When emotions rise.
When anger pushes us to react.
When fear clouds our thinking.
When life places us in a difficult predicament.
The instinct is to react immediately.
But sometimes, wisdom lies in freezing.
Pause.
Hold still.
Observe.
Breathe.
The external situation may not change immediately.
But the clarity within us changes.
And clarity changes decisions.
Many emotional explosions in life happen because we reacted before we reflected.
A calm mind can often detect the “landmines” hidden beneath situations.
Awareness creates clarity.
Clarity creates better decisions.
And better decisions create a better life.
