Invisible struggles
While driving, I encountered a car moving slowly and not giving way despite my persistent honking. I was about to lose my temper when I noticed a small sticker on the rear of the car: "Physically challenged; Please be patient."
Suddenly, everything changed. I calmed down and slowed my pace. In fact, I felt protective of the car and its driver. I reached home a few minutes late, but it was okay.
This experience made me think: Would I have been as patient if there hadn't been a sticker?
Why do we need such reminders to be patient with others?
What if people had labels on their foreheads indicating their struggles, like:
- "Lost my job,"
- "Fighting cancer,"
- "Going through a bad divorce,"
- "Suffering emotional abuse,"
- "Lost a loved one,"
- "Feeling worthless,"
- "Financially broken."
Everyone is fighting their own battles and wars; we know nothing about.
The least we can do is be patient, kind, and compassionate. Let’s respect the invisible labels each person carries.
That's why it's said: Walk gently into others' lives; not all wounds are visible.
