The Importance of Heart Rate Monitoring

The Importance of Heart Rate Monitoring: A Personal Experience

As I ran on the treadmill at about 8 km/h, I started feeling dizzy after a few minutes. A glance at my smartwatch revealed a pulse rate of 157 beats per minute. I immediately recalled my trainer's advice on the importance of monitoring heart rate during exercise.

He had shared a simple formula to calculate the maximum safe heart rate: 220 minus your age, multiplied by 80%. For me, at 66 years old, this meant:

220 - 66 = 154

154 x 0.8 = 123.2 beats per minute

I was shocked to realize I had exceeded this limit by a significant margin. No wonder I was feeling dizzy!

This experience serves as a valuable reminder for all runners and joggers: be mindful of your pulse rate and stay within safe limits to avoid potential health risks.
