The Science of Happiness
Happiness is the end goal of any being. From the smallest insect to the grandest tree, from animals to human beings, every living entity seeks one thing—"Happiness"
Human beings strive for Success and Happiness in that order. Success is defined as the progressive realization of a worthy goal. Happiness Is liking one has, having gratitude, love for the world.
While success is in the becoming, happiness exists in being. You are "Sat, Chit, Ananda" as per the Vedanta - Meaning you are "Existence, Consciousness and Bliss."
The ancient Shastras present a profound yet simple equation for happiness:
Happiness = Number of desires fulfilled / Number of desires entertained.
The greater the numerator, the more happiness one experiences. However, the real secret lies in reducing the denominator—fewer desires lead to greater contentment. This universal formula applies to all, yielding the same results regardless of who embraces it.
The Cycle of Desire and Its Consequences:
The ladder of fall: "as said in the Bhagavad Gita:"
Reflect on this story: The Upanishads share the story of the musk deer, a powerful metaphor for our pursuit of happiness. One day, the deer caught a captivating fragrance and, entranced, began a relentless search to find its source.
It wandered tirelessly through forests, across rugged terrain, and braved harsh conditions, determined to uncover the origin of the scent.
After days of fruitless searching, exhausted and wounded from a fall, the deer lay dying. In its final moments, it discovered the fragrance had been within it all along, emanating from the gland below the navel in its own body.
This story reminds us that, like the musk deer, we often seek happiness outside ourselves, unaware that true happiness and fulfillment reside within.
The joy, divinity, and contentment we long for are not found in the external world but within our own hearts, waiting to be realized.
